Installation of the SDM in smaller pipelines now also possible

Installation in processes with small pipelines is now possible with the non-nuclear Slurry Density Meter (SDM) thanks to a new installation method developed by Rhosonics. The product, called FDSC, is based on the 'UFTC' spool pipe piece, but is specially designed for smaller pipe sizes ranging from 1 inch up to 3 inches.

In the past, the SDM of Rhosonics was not available for pipe sizes of 3 inch and below because the inner pipe radius was too small for the sensor to properly fit in. An innovative square shaped design inside the FDSC pipe piece solves this by offering four flat surfaces, one on each side. The flat surfaces in the middle of the pipe guarantee a flush installation of the sensors, since the sensor tip also has a flat surface. Flush mounted installation of the instrument is important for the measurement results and prevents the sensor from intruding the slurry.

The FDSC pipe piece is made of a super strong synthetic material called UHPE (Ultra High Density Polyethylene) which helps customers to use the instruments under challenging circumstances, such as density measurement of abrasive slurries in the mining and mineral processing industry. Installation of the FDSC is done by mounting the pipe piece between two flanges. The sensor will be mounted to the FDSC and will not be intruding nor disturbing the process slurry because it is flush mounted.

The new installation method is now available for the SDM density meter in the following sizes: 1 inch, 1½ inch, 2 inch and 3 inch. Furthermore, the pipe piece can also be delivered with additional sensor ports or in other materials than UHPE on customer request.
